PENfro Book Festival 2017
A preview of what's in store
Stand by for the seventh Penfro Bookfestival! Since 2011 we have been running our annual book festival in West Wales bringing you high calibre literary talks and workshops. This year we're building the festival around the theme of The Year of the Legend and expanding the number of competitions and workshops to reach more people and have an even wider appeal. We cast our net both near and far, aiming not only to involve the local community but to bring in writers and speakers of national and international repute.
For starters, in addition to the two competitions in poetry and fiction we ran last year, for 2017 we've added a short drama competition in English and a poetry competition in Welsh.
This year we kick off on Thursday evening with Iolo Williams, well loved writer, presenter and environmentalist. Friday evening features the local performance group, Dynamix. Led by Laura Blundall the children devise an entertainment using their own slant on traditional folklore. Saturday night we have the celebrated Lynne Truss of Eats, Shoots & Leaves.
In the workshops we are delighted to welcome back Ceri Wyn Jones who will be giving a talk on the hugely popular BBC radio programme he hosts, Y Talwrn, (the Cockpit) and running a poetry workshop in Welsh. We have poetry workshops in English, with Susan Richardson and Helen Williams, a workshop on the creative process in fiction with Honno writer Hilary Shepherd, writing drama with BAFTA award-winning Lucy Gannon and writing for children with Firefly director Penny Thomas.
